The Benefits of Sugaring
- Sugaring is carried out with care & respect for your skin, this is not like speed waxing that you may have experienced previously.
- Sugaring tends to feel less painful as it does not stick to the skin like wax so may suit people who have experienced discomfort through other forms of hair removal. Some of my male clients have told me that is less harsh than waxing when being removed & they do not have the need to flinch & tense at every rip like with waxing.
- Sugaring removes the hair in the direction of growth (the opposite way to waxing) this causes less damage to the hair follicle so ingrowing hairs tend to be less if at all & your skin is left soft & smooth. Waxing can sometimes cause more ingrowing hairs as they can snap & it essentually changes the direction of the hair folical when pulled out against the natural hair growth direction
- Entirely natural & hypoallergenic so suitable for all skin types, even sensitive skin & people who are allergic to wax or suffer from psoriasis & eczema. Sugar is a natural healer for the skin. I have a client that has avised me he use to always come up in spots a few days after waxing but with sugaring he has noticed his skin is smooth & not irritated.
- Regular sugaring treatments encourage finer and sparser re growth. I have male & female clients that have experienced slower growth, finer hair & patches where hair seems to not be growing back.
- Unlike wax wich contains resins, chemicals & preservatives, sugar paste is entirely natural, leaving the skin smooth & hair free up from 4 to 6 weeks dependant on your hair growth cycle.
- Sugar is a natural exfoliator so removes dead skin cells during the process.Reactions such as redness are less common & if any, disappear faster with sugaring.
- The sugar ball method of sugaring is more hygienic than waxing as there is no spatula to be continually returned to the pot with clients dead skin cells & blood spotting on it.
- Hand sugaring can be more thorough as I can go over the area with & against the hair growth if required.
- Sugaring can be performed on shorter hairs than waxing when it is in it's early growth stage (anagen) so you can be hair free more regularly if you wish. Some hair as short as 5mm can be removed, however this is dependent on the treatment area and previous hair removal method. Hair removed for the first time, maybe more resistant, especially after shaving for many years.
- With hand sugaring I am always aware of the temperature of the paste as it is in my hand. This avoids burning your skin like some waxing methods may do.
- Sugaring is enviromentally friendly being completely biodegradable & contains no harmful chemicals or animal products & has not been tested on animals.
Your First Appointment
Trimming the Hair
For your first treatment you may need the area clippered to get the hair to a comfortable level for removal, there after if you have regular treatments this should not be required every time. This will incurr an extra cost of £5 maximum per area dependant on the amount & size of the area/s as the appointment time will be longer.
I will ensure I book extra time for your first appointment to allow for this if necessary. You can of course clipper the area yourself prior to your appointment but please ensure it is not too short, a no. 2 clipper grade is about the right length but if you are unsure then leave it to me for your first treatment.
Treatment times are only approximate, time taken depends on hair type, skin condition, area being sugared & previous methods of hair removal. At your first appointment I carry out a consultation and will then be able to give you an indication of your personal treatment times for each booking, please there for add an extra 20 mins to your first appointment to allow for this. I prefer not to rush your treatment, sugaring is carried out with care & respect for your skin, this is not like speed waxing that you may have experienced previously.
A Flexible Pricing structure is offered for some body areas based on the amount of hair you have and how much of it you want removed, my prices will give you a guide & at your first treatment I will be able to confirm a definite price. Please do not worry they will not differ vastly, just bring a little extra cash to your first appointment.
Please note: If there are any areas you would like sugared that are not mentioned above please ask. Please be advised I do not offer the sac & crack treatment.
I hold a professional certification in hand sugaring from The Sugar Company which is regognised by BABTAC and The Guild of Professional Beauty Therapists
Questions & Answers
Will it be uncomfortable afterwards?
You will not feel sore afterwards, reactions are less than with waxing. It will feel clean & your skin will feel really smooth against your clothes without the barrier of hair & no sticky wax residue either as you leave the treatment room.
